Classic Urban Harmony's display at the Franklin Township Public
Library was available for viewing through the month of May.
Exhibited were rare items from the history of recorded group harmony
music as well as items from the introduction of the vinyl 45 RPM
record and the resulting RCA Victor and Columbia "War of the
Speeds". On display for possibly the first time ever, was a 7"
record by the Dinwiddie Quartet, released in 1902. It is
believed to be the first disc recording ever by a black vocal
quartet. Only a few copies are still in existence and it may
never be displayed again! Also on display was a wax
cylinder by Polk Miller & the Old South Quartet, a 1/4" thick Edison Disc by the
Southern Four, a 16" diameter red wax and an 8" blue wax
transcription by the Deep River Boys, a wind up Victrola from 1916,
color advertisements for the introduction of the 45, and numerous
other items. See the photo below. The display lasted
until May 31.
