On Tuesday evening, September 22, 2009, Charlie and Pamela
Horner of Classic Urban Harmony gave their premier presentation of "The
History of Doo Wop Music: Part 3." The third part in the series of talks
highlighted the careers of Gene Mumford of the Larks, Golden Gate Quartet and
Dominoes as well as the original Blue Notes, Sensations, Crests, Gene Chandler
& the Dukays, Virgil Johnson & the Velvets and the Mello-Kings. One of
the highlights of the presentation was when Charlie played a previously
unknown penny arcade acetate recording by the teenage Philadelphia group the
Quantrells; a group that contained future members of the Sensations,
Del-Knights, Universals, Cherokees and Dreamers. The historic recording
evoked a spontaneous applause from the audience.
Celebrities in the audience included singers Ron Taylor from
the Del Larks; Shelly Buchansky (original member of Vito & the Salutations);
Vic Donna (who recorded with the Fi-Tones, Parakeets, Sharps and the
Compliments); author, historian and radio and cable TV personality Steve
Propes; and radio personalities Lou Rallo, Jim Bakay and Carl Tancredi.

Pam Horner talks with attendees while they
