Classic Urban Harmony
Presents
The Evolution of Doo Wop Music Part 2
at the Franklin Township Public Library
Somerset, NJ, May 5, 2009
Classic Urban Harmony's
return to Franklin Township Public Library on May 5, 2009 was
another huge success.
Over 60 music enthusiasts braved the stormy weather and threat of
swine flu to attend our
newest multimedia presentation, “Doo Wop Music - Part Two”. We continued our journey through the Doo Wop Era with all new
tales from under the streetlamp. As with our first
presentation, there'll were captivating stories, photos from the
Classic Urban Harmony Archives of vocal groups, rare records, sheet
music and memorabilia and plenty of music clips. Some of the
groups covered this time were the Five Keys, Clovers, Royals/Midnighters, Platters,
Heartbeats, Prisonaires, Lee Andrews & the Hearts and many more.
Especially well received was our tracing of the "annie" series of
records. We again had some R&B
and doo wop singers in the audience, including Sammy Campbell and Ron Taylor of the Del
Larks, Bobby Thomas of the Vibranaires and Orioles, Vic Donna who
recorded with the Parakeets and Shelly Buchansky of Vito & the
Salutations, Silk City, Kid Kyle's Kool Kats and several other
groups. Also present were several area radio personalities
including WRSU's Lou Rallo, WRDV's Jim Bakay, The Pop Shoppe's
Stuart Weiss and Goldradio's "Work With Me Annie" cohost Carl
Tancredi. Jim Bakay also cohosts the "Work with Me Annie" show
as well as singing with the Street Corner Five. Those in
attendance also got to check out our newest display (above).
