JT's
Emeralds Live Acappella Concert
at Franklin Township Public Library
Somerset, NJ, July 6, 2011
The doo wop acappella group JT’s
Emeralds entertained a capacity crowd at the Franklin Township Public
Library (Somerset, NJ) on July 6, 2011. The concert was part of the
library’s Summer Concert Series 2011 and the latest in acappella groups
brought to this library by Pam & Charlie Horner’s Classic Urban Harmony.
The group endured a series of severe
thunderstorms on the way up from the Philadelphia area but still arrived on
time. JT’s Emeralds consist of Jerry Tempesta (an original founder of the
Emeralds in 1964), Frank Lafaro (formerly of Frankie & the Fashions, Billy &
the Essentials and many other groups), Matty Raimo (formerly of Relatives By
Appointment) and Tony Russo (formerly of several groups and now also with
the Destinations).
Not only were JT’s Emeralds impressive
singers but they enlivened the night with their stage presence and
entertaining sense of humor. They were very well received by an audience
that has come to expect great harmony at the Franklin Township Library.
JT’s Emeralds sang two sets, interrupted
only by a short break. They sang twenty-one songs beginning with the Del
Vikings’ “Come Go With Me” and ending with the Monotones’ “Book Of Love”.
In between, they harmonized perfectly to popular songs with a distinct
Philly influence. Philly songs included the Dreamlovers’ “When We Get
Married,” “Zoom,” and “If I Should Lose You,” Lee Andrews & the Hearts’ “The
Clock,” the Fabulaires’ “While Walking,” and the Tymes’ “So In Love” Other
impressive songs included “Good Old Acappella,” a song Jerry sang for the
sound track of the movie “The Dukes” and an unrehearsed request for “Rainy
Day Bells”.
JT’s Emeralds have a great new CD
available called “Back In The Day” Thanks Erin Blatt, Outreach Librarian
for the Franklin Township Library whose progressive programming has made the
library a haven for great harmony. Thanks also to Marian Cicerale for
contributing some of the many photos here. All other photos from the
camera of Pamela Horner.
