Classic Urban Harmony
Doo Wop Presentation (Part 3)
at
Somerset Run Active Adult Community, Somerset, NJ,
on September 27, 2010, Videoed for the Archives
On September 27, 2010, we returned to our home base of the
Somerset Run Active Adult Community and gave Part 3 of our doo wop talks.
We reworked our presentation of "Under the Streetlamp: Tales from the Doo Wop
Era - PART 3" to include a segment about doo wop songs about cars, beginning
with Jimmy Liggins' "Cadillac Boogie," Jackie Brenston's "Rocket 88" and
leading into West Coast car songs like the Medallions' "Buick 59." Of
course we kept our other features on groups like Shep & the Heartbeats and
Limelites and even had more mystery songs and prizes. The response was
phenomenal. We even had the presentation videoed for our archives.
Perhaps in the near future we'll add video excerpts to our website.
Our celebrity guests for the evening were our friends Vic Donna
(the Parakeets, Sharps, Vic Donna Group) and Bobby Thomas (the Vibranaires,
V-Eights and Orioles). As usual we had a nice crowd and a great time!
We can't wait to do our New Jersey Doo Wop Groups talk there.
