Classic Urban Harmony at
the Star Diner
in Rumford, Rhode Island, December 26, 2009
Classic Urban Harmony visited the Star Diner in Rumford, RI on
December 26, 2009, to give a mini-presentation and meet fans of vocal group
harmony in Rhode Island. We spoke for about a half hour about groups
from the Washington Heights area like Frankie Lymon & the Teenagers, Lewis
Lymon & the Teenchords and Jimmy Castor & the Juniors. We also brought
with us our collections of doo wop sheet music, photos and lobby cards for
display. Besides meeting many group harmony fans and having a great
lunch, we also met quite a few area singers, including Cal Raye of the
Class-Airs, members of Ronnie & the Satellites and the acappella group
Flashback. After our presentation Flashback serenaded the crowd with
some tight acappella harmony. Flashback told us they started out in
barbershop harmony and moved into doo wop. They sang "Winter
Wonderland," "This Is My Love," "Gee (But I'd Give The World)," "Goodnight"
and "That's My Desire." Cal Raye led the group in a great rendition of
"Cara Mia". When we left,
many of the singers were still sitting at the tables harmonizing. The
Star Diner is our kind of place! We plan to return soon to give a
longer, formal presentation. Our thanks to Gregg Anderson for
