What a
pleasure it was to have The Vic Donna Group perform a private concert at our
home base, the Somerset Run Active Adult Community clubhouse on July 24th
2011. (Of course, you can guess we had something to do with bring
them here.)
The Vic
Donna Group is one of the finest acappella doo wop groups around. We invited
some friends to join our community to hear this very polished vocal
quintet. The group sang songs from Vic’s extensive songbook going back to
the days when he was a teenager in 1956 singing on the streets of Brooklyn.
Vic Donna was signed to New York City’s Atlas record label and promoted as a
“teen idol”. Atlas realized that he was not only good looking but could
sing as well. Atlas paired him with the group the Parakeets. Vic has been
an active entertainer, recording as a soloist and with doo wop groups like
the Parakeets, Fi-Tones, and the Sharps and has spent considerable time
entertaining in Las Vegas. Vic has now returned to his roots, assembling a
doo wop quintet with five of the strongest group harmony voices around. To

The Vic
Donna Group has been singing together for about a year, making their
professional debut at our 5th Anniversary celebration. [To

Charlie introducing The
Vic Donna Group at Somerset Run
The members
of the group are Vic Donna, Dom D’Elia, John Mirabile, Danny Pesci, and
George Marchese. They opened up this night with The Cadillac’s “Zoom” and
continued with The Fi-Tones arrangement of “Walking My Baby Back Home”. A
favorite song of ours was next led by Vic, “Teenage Rose”, a song Vic sang
as a teenager.

Another tune that Vic once sang on the Ted Steele TV Show, “Story Untold,”
was a fabulous version of the Nutmegs song.

The group harmony enthusiasts in the audience loved the Ink Spots’ songs the
group sang, “We Three” and “The Gypsy”. There were many more songs as the
group sang for an hour and fifteen minutes. For an encore, the
group sang "The Time Of Her Life, a song Vic recorded in 1965 on the
Congress label with the Compliments. The Vic Donna Group is one
sensational group!
